CING x META-BRAIN Seminar Series
The CING x META-BRAIN Seminar Series is a joint online initiative organised by the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) in collaboration with META-BRAIN.
The series is dedicated to advances in computational neuroscience and neuromodulation. It brings together leading international experts to present current research and discuss emerging approaches related to brain activity modelling, network dynamics, non-invasive stimulation technologies, and structure–function relationships.
Organised as part of CING’s knowledge exchange activities within the META-BRAIN project, it supports interdisciplinary dialogue and promotes the exchange of expertise across research, clinical and technological domains.

Seminar 2
Degeneracy and Pareto Optimality: Towards Robust Biophysical & Morphological Models of Neurons
Speaker: Peter Jedlicka, Professor of Computer-Based Modelling (JLU Giessen)
This seminar explores the concepts of degeneracy and Pareto optimality in computational neuroscience, focusing on how different neuronal structures and biophysical configurations can produce similar functional outcomes. The session also discusses biologically plausible neuronal modelling, functional trade-offs, and the relevance of these approaches for understanding neuronal dynamics and brain function.
Seminar 1
Improving Cognition for Brain and Mental Health: Network Effects of Non-invasive Neuromodulation
Speaker: Professor Marcus Kaiser (University of Nottingham)
This seminar presents research on the effects of transcranial focused ultrasound neuromodulation in humans, examining both brain connectivity and behavioural outcomes following stimulation of the inferior frontal cortex or thalamus. The session also addresses changes in network dynamics and ongoing work on closed-loop neuromodulation.
